EXCELLENCE CARP ROD

This is one of our new products in 2018. Visually it’s a classic „Old School” with a modern touch. The most fashionable combo in recent years. A shiny blank in a deep burgundy and a cork ring by the reel seat make it very classy.

I was fortunate enough to test out the shortest rod in the range - the Excellence Carp Solatium. This 10ft rod with a 3lbs test curve was perfect for fishing using a bait boat and on a small reservoir with many trees around it, where a longer rod would make casting impossible.

The first fish who went against this rod was a carp a little over 10 kg. It was a real wild one. Several times it planted itself right in the weeds and it’s wild runs made it possible for me to really appreciate the assets of this rod. The parabolic bend allowed me to tighten the drag on the reel and let the rod do the work. All through the fight the rod and the line worked as one. I could feel every move the fish made and I could predict what it would do next so I managed to prevent it from going into the worst weeds, which would inevitably result in a snag. The haul was a lot of fun and it made it clear that despite the relatively soft blank the rod has a big power reserve which will allow you to stop the fish in any situation.

GUIDES. Despite being quite short the rod has 6 guides - the main one in 30mm in diameter and the tip one is 10mm, which is wide enough to get a safety clip through. This is important to me as I don’t like to transport my rods in parts and On short trips I don’t like to waste time on tying my casting leaders and clips. I keep a piece of casting leader tied to my main line on a spool. 6 correctly distributed guides allowed me to cast farther and make full use of the specifications of the rod.

CASTING TEST. I was able to cast precisely at a distance of around 80 meters using the three-meter Excellence. I’m talking about real casts with a full rig: 0,35 mm line, around 1 meter of leadcore, a leader with an 18mm boilie, a 100g weight on a clip. After removing the leader with the boilie I was able to reach around 100 meters out. You might be wondering: „why use this rod for casting if it was made for a bait boat?” But it also works well for casting on small and medium-sized reservoirs with many trees around where it’s hard to cast with a longer rod.

SUMMARY. The perfect rod for a bait boat. Made for people who appreciate unique looks. On smaller and medium-sized reservoirs it can be a great alternative for the standard 12ft rods. Beautiful action and a big power reserve makes it possible to stop even a huge fish from making a run for it. As the name suggests its truly EXCELLENCE personified.
