I am very sad to announce that on the day of 27th of October 2018 at 5:00pm the Street Fishing in Poland became a history. Street Fishing Extreme to be more precise; it was the last edition of the 2018 series that touched our hearts. Yet before we get to the very event itself, let’s go back in time to the journey to Szczecin that we had to take.
Few weeks before the event we decided to take a different approach to presentation of a new street fishing series called the Blocks. To be honest there was no time to be bored at the Mikado stand as countless crowd was really into the new equipment that we tried during the contest; is the dry run enough though? Of course not! Furthermore, knowing how great the Blocks series is, we really wanted to showcase it in action.
That’s how we ended up packing not only the exhibition equipment, but also real-deal tools.
We got to the Wały Chrobrego venue roughly at around 5:30am, where we met the organizers setting up their pneumatic tent in complete darkness. Despite the windy, cold weather our moods were great as we knew that we were facing the entire day of fishing.
Szczecin attracted over 200 contestants that caught the first fish just a few minutes into the contest. Not willing to interrupt the competition for the biggest prey, we decided to spend a few initial hours playing with the perches – that gave Marek the 18th position anyways!
Fish weren’t the only reason for us getting to the Odra river banks though; we were focused on a real-life testing of the Mikado equipment. We brought along all the Blocks models fitted with different reels (including the Black Crystal) and variety of lures: Saira, Fish Fry, Fishunter, Speedo… we had heaps! As if it wasn’t enough we had different rigs ready to try different techniques. There was a zander Drop Shot, Finesse Jigging attracting multitude of perches and a classing jigging. Despite the rough weather conditions, day was passing really quickly and the group testing came out to be a great idea. We knew that we brought extraordinary equipment and the other contestants surprised us multiple times with a creative approach to its application. It is pretty much clear to anyone by now that the Blocks series works great in the urban jungle, yet who said you cannot use them outside the city?
After a full day of fishing a hot soup & a tea provided by the organizers became a true blessing. Swift sum up and the best contestants were showered with valuable prizes. There was absolutely no room for complaints! Enough said - this years’ Grand Prix winner received from us a Kendo Shine rod, the unquestionable jewel in the crown of the Mikado range.
Well it was all great and spectacular, yet what now? The series are over. There’s no Street Fishing event coming anytime soon… so what shall we do with our lives? Worry not, as next year there will surely be another edition of the Street Fishing Extreme and it will surprise us with new ideas. In a meantime we can spend the oncoming months planning the tactics, looking for new sneaky techniques and replenishing the equipment ;)
