Saira and Fishunter Goliat are the best lures of the year!
Abramis Ltd. – the owner of the Mikado brand – wins the ERÄ AWARD FOR THE BEST LURE OF THE YEAR IN 2017 in Finland for the third time in a row.
We asked the anglers who took part in the test to choose their favourite lures and we compiled the results to determine the ‘lure of the year’ in every category.
This year not one but two Mikado lures won the award:
- Best pike fishing lure of the year – Mikado Fishunter Goliat 22cm.
The biggest pike caught during testing was over 11kg.
- Best perch fishing lure of the year – Mikado Saira 5cm.
The most efficient soft lure, especially for the drop-shot technique.
Meet Saira Flipper – the renowned soft lure Saira now has a younger sister! Mikado designers fused Sairas tail together to make it one larger surface. This makes the lure move more aggressively and create a bigger hydrodynamic wave, which in turn has a stronger impact on the lateral line of the predators. This soft lure can be used in different types of rigs – a classic jig head, a corkscrew jighead or an offset hook with a cheburashka. You can use it for “on the drop” fishing but it will work just as well for techniques such as vertical and drop shot. Smaller sizes are perfect for perch and the bigger ones will surely entice zander and pike. Available in 5, 8, 10, 12, 14, 17, 20 cm.
The “Saira” swallow is my favourite lure. I call it ‘the last resort’. It has often saved my angler’s honour when the fish weren’t biting. It can always get the perch to attack. I can’t imagine not having these magical Saira swallows in my lure box. If you have never tried fishing with this fantastic lure, I really recommend it. It’s the perfect way to outsmart the predators. They are available in a wide range of colors so everyone can find their killer.
With Saira you can be sure your fishing trip will be productive even if the fish aren’t very active. It often saves the day when nothing else works.

Fishunter Goliat is a selective lure for big fish. The tried-and-true Fishunter in the Goliat size is the best way to beat your Personal Best. 22 centimeters of meaty rubber with an aggressively working tail will entice big predators.
The work on this legendary lure began in 2006. The need to create a new quality in soft lures was born due to the obvious imperfections in the then-available lures, as well as the ideas and needs that emerged during long hours of predator fishing using the spinning method. The first prototypes were focused on creating an innovative shape of the lure by redesigning the arrangement of the body-tail-blade to get extremely aggressive work noticeable already at the time of fall. Thickened and overloaded body, in combination with the increased tail surface, brought completely new dynamics, giving as a result an extremely strong hydro acoustic wave more intensely provoking predators to attack.
The other idea was to design a “nest” in the front part of the soft lure, adapting to the shape of the jig head by “sucking in” its part, which resulted in better aerodynamics and reduced the problems with removing the lure from the hook after unsuccessful predator attack. Then, the time came for such a selection of the composition and consistency of plastic, from which Fishunter was to be made, to obtain the ideal ratio between the elasticity and durability of the mixture.
After many trials and tests, the first version of Fishunter was born, presented in our catalogue for the season 2007. This product has proven to be such an effective lure for predators that it became a bestseller on the spinning market from the very beginning, and until today, forms the basis of the fishing arsenal used by the spinning enthusiasts all over Europe. This year, enlarged to the Fishunter Goliat sizes – 18 and 22 cm – it received the ERÄ AWARD FOR THE BEST PIKE FISHING LURE OF THE YEAR 2017 in Finland.
How many times hunting for pike has been unsuccessful? Every time you put your lure into the water, you hope to have the biting of your lifetime. Anglers fishing on smaller lures statistically reduce their chance to meet the fish of their lifetime and there is a very simple reason for it. Before our lure goes under the mouth of a real “mommy”, it can be snatched out much earlier by a kiddy. Obviously, there are exceptions to the rule, but is it worth leaving such a great and powerful fish to chance? No! It’s time to increase the calibre and go after the real monsters! The well-known Fishunter has grown to the size of Goliath. Goliat Fishunter can be described literally in a few words, TIME FOR A METRE-LONG FISH!
